Kiteschool Silvaplana (Swiss Kitesurf)✔ Verified
school · kitesurfing, wingfoiling, SUP
Swiss Kitesurf runs its school and shop right beside the kitebeach at the Mulets sports centre in Silvaplana, at about 1,800 m in the Upper Engadine. Group, semi-private, private and foil lessons cover kitesurfing and wingfoiling, and the shop rents and tests kites, wings, boards and foils, with a repair service for when things go wrong. Everything sits within about 200 metres: the beach, changing rooms and showers in the sports centre, a kite bar and Restaurant Mulets with its sun terrace, plus a campsite on the lake. Beginners learn on the same water where experienced riders chase the afternoon Maloja wind, with the peaks of the Engadine all around.
Good to know: The thermal south-westerly usually fills in from about 1 pm and blows until sunset, so book morning lessons for theory and the afternoon for time on the water.

Lake Silvaplana kite spot✔ Verified
spot · kitesurfing, windsurfing, wingfoiling
High in the Upper Engadine, Lake Silvaplana is Switzerland's best-known kite lake because of the Maloja wind, a thermal south-westerly that typically sets in around 1 pm and blows until sunset at 4 to 5 Beaufort, stronger with a south-westerly airflow. North winds are less reliable. The launch is a leased private meadow at the Mulets sports centre, with marshals on duty in season, and there is a single authorised entry point to the lake. It is a spot for independent riders; newcomers should start with the school on the beach.
Good to know: Kitebeach access needs a season or day membership bought on site, liability insurance that covers kiting in Switzerland, and proof of level (VDWS 4 or IKO 3J).

Isleten kite spot – Urnersee✔ Verified
spot · kitesurfing
Isleten sits on the western shore of the Urnersee, the southern arm of Lake Lucerne, where steep limestone walls drop into the water. The beach is pebbly and the chop small. Unlike Silvaplana, this is not a thermal spot: the windiest months are December to March, when Föhn storms funnel down the Reuss valley, and summer days with wind are rare. Spot statistics count about 61 days a year with at least 12 knots. On big Föhn days the lake has seen gusts well above 40 knots, so it is strictly for independent, experienced riders who can judge gusty mountain wind.
Good to know: Since 2021 launching at Isleten has been allowed only for club members and day members, so sort out membership before you rig.

Kite Addicted – kite school Urnersee✔ Verified
school · kitesurfing
Operating on the Urnersee since 2016, this IKO kite school has worked from the port of Flüelen at the southern end of the lake, running sessions from a large boat rather than from the beach. Its spot is the Föhn-driven Urnersee around Isleten, where launching from shore is restricted to club members. Independent kiting skills are required for its boat sessions. Its current status is unclear: a kite directory now marks the school as likely closed, while the canton of Uri still listed it at an address in Beckenried in late 2024. Contact the school directly before planning a trip.
Good to know: Confirm by phone or e-mail that the school is operating before you travel, as listings disagree.
Please check before you go: Unconfirmed: a 2024 canton of Uri list still names this school (Beckenried), but a kite directory says it is likely closed — call before you go.

Good to know
Is kitesurfing allowed in Switzerland?
Yes, since 15 February 2016, unless a canton restricts it. Kiting is only allowed by day and in clear visibility, and liability insurance of at least CHF 750,000 is mandatory.
Can I kite on Lake Zurich?
On parts of Lake Zurich, yes — not in the city basin and not within 150 m of piers, bathing areas or harbour entrances; it is banned on Greifensee, Pfäffikersee and Türlersee.
